September 15, 2009 - Notes - Phone conversation with Raahul Reddy

9:00am

Raahul's talking point to use with principals and teachers being recruited to be tutors

What works:  We pay MORE and our program is EASIER TO USE AND WE MOVE KIDS!  If we get majority of kids, you will make AYP.
  1. Compensation - CR pays at upper limits - highly competitive
  2. Staff Get paid every month
  3. Opporunities to make additional money - performance bonuses -- Site Coordinators make $5-$10 more than tutors
  4. Extremely user friendly course -- all instructions, script, etc. are in the book -- research based (not workbooks)
  5. Very small groups (5-7 Certified/3-5 Parapro)
  6. This is the program that will move kids AND give you new skills to take to classroom
APPEAL TO LOGIC:  If everything is on par  with best providers -- we will move kids -- we know this b/c of research.  THIS MAKES MORE SENSE.
"If everything else is even, don't you think you want to work with me?"

AT THE SCHOOL:  Find a point person -- who knows the kids, will get kids, enthusiastic (e.g., like Wannica Vance), possibility thinker
  • Counselors make a good point person -- they know the kids, who's eligible, etc.
  • Tell them 40-50 kids gets a site coordinator position - paid $5-$10 more than the tutors.  (My thought: Easy way to make about $1500+ )
Carter Reddy experience - factors influencing success at schools --- schools with the greatest success had...
  • Significant percentage of kids in our program (critical mass)
  • School buy-in (hired their teachers) -- Transfer to classroom occurs!
